Platform Engineering Technical Community Group
The CNCF Platform Engineering Technical Community Group (TCG) focuses on platform engineering practices, tools, and patterns that help development teams self-service their infrastructure needs while maintaining consistency, security, and governance across an organization. It is a Technical Community Group, not a User Group — see Governance for the distinction between the two.
Focus areas
- Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs) — platform architecture, service catalogs, platform APIs, and multi-tenancy.
- Golden paths — paved roads, reusable templates, and documented best practices.
- Self-service capabilities — environment provisioning, CI/CD integration, service dependencies, and built-in observability.
- Platform as a product — product thinking, user research, metrics, and feedback loops.
- Developer experience — portals, CLI tools, documentation, onboarding, and support models.
- Operational practices — GitOps, infrastructure as code, policy as code, security, and cost management.
